What we help with
At College 4 Canines, What We Help With
When your dog's behaviour is making everyday life stressful, you don't have to figure it out alone.
Maybe you dread seeing another dog on your walk.
Maybe your dog barks, lunges or growls and you feel like everyone is watching.
Perhaps you've stopped going to busy places because you never know how your dog will react.
Or maybe you're worried that your dog's behaviour is getting worse and you're running out of ideas.
You are not a bad dog owner — and your dog isn't a bad dog.
At College 4 Canines, we help dogs and their owners understand why the behaviour is happening, so we can address the underlying emotions and motivations rather than simply trying to suppress the symptoms.
Our force-free dog behaviourist in Cramlington provides personalised 1:1 behaviour support for dogs experiencing a wide range of behavioural challenges, including:
Reactive dog behaviour – barking, lunging, growling or becoming overwhelmed around other dogs.
Dog aggression – aggressive or threatening behaviour towards dogs or people, including dogs that are difficult to safely manage.
Barking and lunging on walks – helping dogs who struggle when they see other dogs, people, cyclists, runners or traffic.
Fear and anxiety – nervous, fearful or worried dogs who struggle to cope with people, dogs, environments or everyday situations.
Lead reactivity and frustration – dogs who become highly excited, frustrated or distressed when restricted by their lead.
Difficulty around other dogs – including dogs who cannot calmly pass, greet or walk near other dogs.
Fear of people or visitors – dogs who bark, hide, growl or become uncomfortable when people enter the home or approach them.
Resource guarding – guarding food, toys, beds or other valued possessions.
Over-excitement and poor impulse control – dogs who struggle to calm down, focus or make good choices in stimulating environments.
Behaviour following a negative experience – including dogs whose behaviour has changed after being frightened, attacked or overwhelmed.
Problems in busy environments – helping dogs cope more comfortably with parks, shops, streets and other challenging public spaces.
Dogs who have been labelled “aggressive”, “difficult” or a “write-off” – providing a compassionate, individual approach without punishment or intimidation.
We don't just want your dog to look better behaved.
We want to help your dog feel better.
Using science-based, force-free behaviour modification, we work on the emotions behind the behaviour and teach your dog alternative ways to cope.
The goal isn't simply to stop your dog barking or pulling.
It's to help you reach the point where you can enjoy walks again, feel confident taking your dog out, and understand what your dog needs from you.
If you're looking for a dog behaviourist in Cramlington for reactive, anxious, fearful or aggressive dog behaviour, we're here to help.
For the owners who feel like they've tried everything.
Our 1:1 dog behaviour service is for owners in Cramlington and surrounding Northumberland who are struggling with their dog's behaviour and want professional help without using fear, punishment or harsh training methods.
You may be wondering:
“Why does my dog do this?”
“Am I making it worse?”
“Will my dog ever be able to enjoy a normal walk in places like Northumberlandia or East Cramlington Nature Reserve?”
“What if they hurt another dog?”
“Why can't I control my dog when they see a trigger on walks around Manor Walks, Plessey Woods or Alexandra Park?”
“Have I left it too late?”
If any of this sounds familiar, you're in the right place.
Our 1:1 behaviour support is particularly suitable if your dog:

Is a rescue dog struggling to adjust to their new life in Cramlington or Northumberland
Has behaviour that is becoming more frequent, intense or difficult to manage on everyday walks
Has previously been told they are “too difficult” for normal training classes
Has already had training but the behaviour keeps coming back, especially in real-world walking environments
Has owners who simply want to understand their dog better and feel confident walking them in their local area again
You don't need a “perfect” dog before asking for help.
In fact, that's exactly why we're here.
You don't have to wait until your dog has bitten someone.
You don't have to keep avoiding walks around places like Northumberlandia, Plessey Woods, East Cramlington Nature Reserve or Manor Walks.

And you don't have to use punishment to make progress.

We’re proud to be recommended by families across Cramlington.
Our reviews reflect our calm approach, clear support, and commitment to dog welfare.
We are fully qualified and experienced in handling aggression cases safely. We will implement strict management protocols to keep everyone safe while we work on changing your dog's underlying emotional response.
Behavior change is a process, not a quick fix. The timeline depends on the severity of the issue, frequency of the behaviour, how long the dog has been practicing the behavior, and your consistency with the training plan. We focus on long-term, sustainable results rather than temporary suppression.
Yes! We use positive reinforcement, which often involves high-value food rewards, toys, or praise to motivate your dog. This science-based approach builds a strong, trusting bond and makes learning enjoyable for your dog.
For sudden behavioral changes, we always recommend a vet check first to rule out pain or underlying medical conditions. While a formal referral isn't always strictly necessary, we often work collaboratively with your vet for the best outcome.
Initial consultations typically take place in your home, where your dog is most comfortable and where many behavioral issues occur. Subsequent sessions may take place at home, in your local area, or at a secure field depending on what we are working on.
We exclusively use force-free, science-based training methods. We focus on positive reinforcement to encourage good behavior rather than using physical corrections or punishment.
Examples of our methods include clicker training to clearly mark good choices, capturing and rewarding desired actions, teaching incompatible alternative behaviors (like 'go to your mat' instead of jumping), and using desensitization and counter-conditioning for anxiety or reactivity. We set the environment up for success and never use shock collars, prong collars, or intimidation tactics.
