Who its for?
Who Is This For?
If you've started avoiding Blyth South Beach because your dog reacts to other dogs, feel anxious walking through Ridley Park, or dread passing other owners along the Blyth Harbour promenade, you're not alone.
At College 4 Canines, we provide professional dog behaviour consultations in Blyth for dogs experiencing emotional and behavioural challenges. Our force-free, science-based approach focuses on changing how your dog feels—not simply suppressing unwanted behaviours. Our one-to-one behaviour consultations are designed for dog owners across Blyth and the surrounding Northumberland area who want more than quick fixes. We help owners understand why their dog behaves the way they do before creating a personalised, force-free training plan that delivers lasting behaviour change.
What we help with
This service is ideal if your dog:
Barks, lunges or growls at other dogs on walks.
Reacts to people, cyclists, runners or children.
Pulls constantly on the lead and struggles to focus outdoors.
Becomes anxious in busy places or unfamiliar environments.
Finds beach walks or busy parks overwhelming.
Guards food, toys or resting places.
Struggles when visitors arrive at your home.
Is fearful, lacking confidence or easily startled.
Becomes overexcited and difficult to settle.
Has become reactive following a frightening experience or dog attack.
Has been labelled "stubborn", "dominant" or even a "lost cause."
Whether you've recently noticed changes in your dog's behaviour or you've been living with these challenges for years, we'll help you understand the underlying causes and support you every step of the way. As a qualified Dog Behaviourist serving Blyth and Northumberland, Denise combines over a decade of practical experience and with university-level qualifications in canine behaviour to help dogs feel calmer, safer and more confident in everyday life.
Whether you're enjoying a walk along Blyth South Beach, exploring Ridley Park, taking in the views around Blyth Harbour, or strolling the promenade with your dog, these should be moments you both enjoy together. But if your dog barks, lunges, growls or becomes overwhelmed every time another dog, cyclist or jogger appears, even the simplest walk can become stressful and exhausting.
At College 4 Canines, we provide professional, science-based dog behaviour support for owners throughout Blyth and the surrounding Northumberland area. We understand that behaviour problems don't happen because dogs are being "stubborn" or trying to dominate. More often, they're a sign that your dog is feeling anxious, fearful, frustrated or unable to cope with their environment.
Using ethical, force-free behaviour modification, we work to understand the emotions driving your dog's behaviour before creating a personalised training plan tailored to their individual needs. Whether you're living with a reactive dog, a nervous rescue, a fearful adolescent or a dog struggling with everyday life, we'll help you build confidence, improve communication and create lasting behaviour change using modern, evidence-based methods. We help determine your dogs triggers, thresholds, emotions behind the behaviour to prevent trigger stacking. Every behaviour programme begins with a detailed assessment of your dog's history, lifestyle, emotional wellbeing and triggers.
Our goal is simple: to help you enjoy calm, relaxed walks again, strengthen the bond with your dog and give you both the confidence to explore Blyth and the beautiful Northumberland coastline without fear, frustration or worry.

We’re proud to be recommended by families across Blyth and Northumberland.
Our reviews reflect our calm approach, clear support, and commitment to dog welfare.
We are fully qualified and experienced in handling aggression cases safely. We will implement strict management protocols to keep everyone safe while we work on changing your dog's underlying emotional response.
Behavior change is a process, not a quick fix. The timeline depends on the severity of the issue, frequency of the behaviour, how long the dog has been practicing the behavior, and your consistency with the training plan. We focus on long-term, sustainable results rather than temporary suppression.
Yes! We use positive reinforcement, which often involves high-value food rewards, toys, or praise to motivate your dog. This science-based approach builds a strong, trusting bond and makes learning enjoyable for your dog.
For sudden behavioral changes, we always recommend a vet check first to rule out pain or underlying medical conditions. While a formal referral isn't always strictly necessary, we often work collaboratively with your vet for the best outcome.
Initial consultations typically take place in your home, where your dog is most comfortable and where many behavioral issues occur. Subsequent sessions may take place at home, at an agreed public location like South Beach, Blyth Town Centre, Isabella Centre or at a secure field depending on what we are working on.
We exclusively use force-free, science-based training methods. We focus on positive reinforcement to encourage good behavior rather than using physical corrections or punishment.
Examples of our methods include clicker training to clearly mark good choices, capturing and rewarding desired actions, teaching incompatible alternative behaviors (like 'go to your mat' instead of jumping), and using desensitization and counter-conditioning for anxiety or reactivity. We set the environment up for success and never use shock collars, prong collars, or intimidation tactics.
